ATAs: Connecting Analog Phones and Fax Machines

An ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) bridges an existing analog device onto our VoIP system. Useful when you want to keep:

  • An analog cordless phone you already own
  • Overhead paging or door-buzzer systems
  • An analog fax machine
  • Legacy alarm / monitoring dialers

Grandstream models we use

  • HT801 / HT802 — 1 or 2 FXS ports, compact
  • HT812 / HT814 — 2 or 4 FXS ports, dual gigabit Ethernet

Fax over IP

Most customers fax from PJL Connect with no machine at all (see Sending and Receiving Faxes). If you keep a fax machine, we can send incoming faxes to both.

The system supports T.38 fax over IP. Older fax machines work but the call sometimes needs codec tuning — if you have a fax machine to connect, let us know during onboarding so we can verify the line is set up correctly.
